Twilio is a Web service that lets people use standard programming languages to build voice, VoIP, and SMS applications via its simple API. Practically developers can write desktop or mobile applications that can start or receive SMS or voice calls.
NomadicPhone is a PHP & SQLite tool that does this, allowing users to attach a real-life phone number to a PHP application and use the Twilio service to call or send SMS messages to people using their Web browser.
The application is easy to install and works out of the box. Just download, unzip, and move it to your Web server. Also don't forget to add your Twilio API key to the config.php file. Default admin username and password are "admin/admin".
Once everything up and running, users will be able to use a Flash-based plugin to call real-life phone numbers and talk and listen to phone calls using their PC's headphones/speakers and microphone.
